I like this pic. Two styles of BMW bikes I like. The background has a surreal panoramic look. Much like an old Hollywood MGM set for a John Wayne western from the 30's or 40's.

Just picked this '73 R75/5 up as a project bike on Tuesday....i've got a looonnnggg road ahead of me to restore/customize her but it will be fun! :dance

First think to go is the kawasaki front end (anyone want to buy it?) and then probably the harley foot pegs that some jerk welded on to the frame :banghead

First thing to go on is the proper timing cover and starter cover with engine badges!

At least its numbers matching with the original toaster tank! :thumb

You're gonna have fun!

Dang it! I just got rid of side panels, starter cover and various other things I didn't need. The beauty of Airheads though are available parts all over. I've kept my 60/6 as original with mechanical upgrades over the years. It's been a lot more fun tearing down the 75/6 I rebuilt because I had the freedom of not going anything back to original. Either way, you can't lose. The red/chrome toaster tank is a great combination! If I can help in any way send me a PM.

What's that line coming off the rear drive top vent?

What's that line coming off the rear drive top vent?

Looks like a puke tube; you can see it snaking around the front side of the shock and down by the silencer.

My /5 has never emitted anything from that vent. Might want to be checking the oil level in the FD.

If you're thinking of staying the the cafe motif, Boxer Cafe makes a tidy engine/starter cover. Otherwise, you're going to be looking to collect a bunch of OEM parts; starter cover, airbox, filter, intake tubes, Magura choke lever housing and cables (cute wire choke wires he's set up there) etc. The battery has to be moved up in the tail fairing. Did he actually cut the top portion off of the front cover?! Where is the diode board?

Cludged on silencer mounts... must of had to do that to work with the welded on footpegs.

I can't really see the swingarm that clearly, but it looks a bit "thick" where is should be thin. Wondering if it's an R65 unit (?); which would make this a Short Wheel Base machine. Might have done this to make it a little more twitchy... edit_ nope looks more like a later /6 part.

More pics, please :)

1970 r60/5

I found this R60/5 sitting in a co-workers garage. It had been sitting for 14 years. What a blast to ride :brad

My beautiful Boxer

My 1983 R100RS. Third one of these I've owned, all in this year and color. This one is perfect, made new by a BMW Tech before I bought it.
