R1200 - Exhaust header gaskets

Danger: Keep Back 500 Ft
Is it necessary to install new gaskets when reinstalling the exhaust header, or can the old ones be reused (assuming they are in fine shape)?

I had purchased a set to replace OEM ones when removing headers. Short answer is I did not need them, looked just like the ones in the parts sack. I have removed exhaust twice in two years without replacing.

My mechanic says he always replaces them when R&R because they tend to be pushed in during assembly, but he observed that I got away with using the old ones - no leaks.
