How do I post a picture? Try 2mb or less sizing

Test. The re - jigged SmugMug is really fighting me. I wish they'd just left it alone. The new ADVrider is tough, too.

Got it in, first try, here. Too bad about the IMG tags.

Hi Rinty, I took a look at the code in your post and did the picture a little different. It took care of the Img tags (which I have seen before and hadn't bothered to think about).
I've been threatening to get a Smuggy for some time but, as I am a crappy taker of La Photo's, haven't done so.

I suspect a different option choice on the selection will solve the img deal.

I kinda like the new look at ADV. From a technical aspect- they did a very nice job and a spectacular job on transferring the old info to the new platform.

Thanks, Gary.

I didn't have too much trouble getting that one onto the Forum, but on the Rennlist I ended up having to use the link function to get it on, as the picture icon wouldn't generate a response.
I'll try that here and see what happens to the tags:

<a href="https://rinty.smugmug.com/Other/Rins-Africa-shots-edited/i-4TCw5vF/A"><img src="https://rinty.smugmug.com/Other/Rins-Africa-shots-edited/i-4TCw5vF/0/XL/Africa%2009%20426-XL.jpg" alt=""></a>

Ah, tags be gone. :clap

What I like about Smug Mug is the lack of advertisements, and it's easy enough to use so that even I can figure out how to work it (most of the time). :D

Cool :thumb
A Smuggy is the way to go IMO. I haven't looked at the linking features in a while. If I am on something other than VB, I have to root around a while to see what the software is looking for.
I see you got a picture of me when I was a little beggar :D

Apology after trying to post photos of 2015 National Rally

Sorry-Pitiful-Panjo ?
Not really surprised that posted pictures from an iPad took a lot of work to show up in preview and post correctly and then turn out rotated on a desktop. Ruined the what should be a very simple post and viewing.
Sort of pitiful.
Panjo ?

I don't know, and should never have had to bring it up.

57 pages on how to post a Photograph. Are you people kidding.

"Search" is a joke.

The Annoynomous site doesn't work.

If anyone thinks this is normal or acceptable please write in and tell me why.

I used to enjoy the forum, but rapidly realizing I am wasting a lot of time on ridiculousness.

Sorry you are having trouble Charlie. It's 57 pages because it goes back to 2003. Things change through software upgrades or, as mentioned in the posts above, where the pictures are "loaded" to the forum.
Panjo has it's problems but there are still Members using it- so it's not broken.
The mobile AB accessed from the forum is a bit fouled up from my access point as well. I have been told some work will be done this week.
If you have a specific problem- let me know. I will help you through it as best I can.
Gary

These 57 pages also include people just testing the water before actually posting to another thread. I like it, I've posted in here more than once, trying different sizes and experimenting. Go for it, you will get the hang of it and soon you will posting photos with ease.

There you go :thumb
Thanks Rich.

These explanations do not help with the problem Charlie is having wherein pictures post sideways. I have the same problem but get around it by editing them on my Macbook and rotating each pictures 90 degrees four times and reposting them looking unchanged. This is a new problem that I have noticed in the last few months and had to do it for every picture in a fairly long Ride Report thread. Not sure if Charlie can do this (edit/rotate pictures) on an iPad.

OK, but Charlie has to mention that specific problem. That problem, and I think I responded to hime in a thread on this :scratch , is he up-loading from an iPhone (smart phone).....or a computer?
This has happened (sideways view) with a phone. I haven't seen the problem from a computer up-load. When this goes on for one Member but seems to be OK for most others- try to think of where the problem is really located. If you know him, have Charlie check back to see this.

This problem (pictures appearing sideways) is definitely a problem with Apple products. Information about the orientation that is embedded with the image, eg the EXIF information, is not used by vBulletin software to auto rotate the image. Thus, you must pre-rotate the image prior to uploading. I did some experimenting some time back. I had a picture taken with an iPhone in the normal "portrait" mode, that is the camera was oriented so that the longer side of the phone was pointing up-down. When that picture was uploaded to the forum, it was shown as a landscape picture but it had been rotated 90 degrees counter clockwise. It's a matter of pre-rotating (I don't remember which direction that finally worked...it's not obvious!) so that eventually it will post correctly.

This is a vBulletin "feature" and nothing that we can correct.

My wife just got an iPhone 6s plus and offered me her iPhone 5.

I declined. :D

I'm surprised that no one's figured out a solution for the sideways pictures. It seems to me that VBulletin is a pretty popular platform. The pictures are amazing, though.

My experience is with an iPhone 5s and it didn't matter which way I took the picture (portrait or landscape) - always shows up sideways. I tried just rotating simply to what should be the correct orientation and that just made it sideways the other way. Through experimentation I found that rotating all the way around (4 times 90 degrees) clockwise or counterclockwise and re-saved on my Mac prior to upload to the Forum worked fine.

I don't personally know Charlie but had PM's him with my fix method and he was using an iPad (not sure what generation) and don't know if he has editing software or Mac/PC to edit with.

My experience in Business (as a B2B partner) and personally is that Apple will bend to no-one even if they are out of step with the industry so workarounds abound in a lot of areas for compatibility.

All good info Ken :thumb Thanks!
I will experiment with this. I never user to have the problem once the picture was in the computer. I have a suspicion that my upgrade to El Capitain is the reason for the change (problem).
Gary

Hmmm... many of us (including me) just happened to upgrade to El Capitan!
Yeah, maybe it's it :eek It always happen from the iPhone so I work around it by posting pictures from the computer.
Software changes and it always seems like something is amiss (or missing)- do you get sounds from you mail (Apple) anymore?

Sideways photos

I am new to Mac and in trying to load a photo onto the post a pic thread it comes out sideways. I tried rotating the photo 360 degrees as discussed in this thread, but to no avail. I don't have, any photo editing software other than that which came with the computer. Any thoughts? :scratch

Bob -

Is this something that is on your Mac or something that is on the iPhone? Or did you take the picture with the iPhone and moved it over to your Mac? The 360 trick is something I tried on a picture taken with an older iPhone, a 5s. What version phone do you have?
