Moly treatment

I read the PaulÔÇÖs post on adding moly to gear oil. Guard Dog also sells moly to add to engine oil. Is there any problem with adding moly to engine oil?

I'm not certain, but I'd be concerned with the moly particles clogging the oil filter pores.

I read somewhere (can't remember where, ADV.com site I think) that someone did this and it took them three oil changes before they could see the oil level through the site glass. This was because the Moly coated the inside of the window black.

Thanks for the replies. There web site said no problem with the oil filter, just do not use it with a wet clutch. But the BLACK site glass may be a problem.

I don't recommend it at all for engines.

The sight glass issue is important, especially on Oilheads. I did it on my K75 and regretted it.

There also is some question which I recall related to temperature and the moly - present in engines (hot) and not in transmissions and final drives.

I swear by the stuff for gears and final drives and do not use it in engines.

I'm with Paul on that one.

I added Locking Differential Friction Modifier Additive (from NAPA) to the tranny on my 94 R1100RS and it seems to shift slightly better than with just the full synthetic gear lube I normally run in the tranny. No problems in over 20,000 mile of riding since adding the additive.

Also, the 96 spec tranny in my 94 R1100RS has about 60,000 miles on it with no problems (other than the usual crappy shifting of that vintage BMW). The bike now has over 125,000 miles on it.
