Valve shims

My K12 needs its valves adjusted, and i'm comfortable
with doing it myself.

What's the best way to get\borrow the shims
needed to do it? Are there any austin area
members who want to go in on a kit?

Can the size of the shims in there now
be ascertained without removal, so I can
tell exactly which shims I need?

TIA

Eric

Shims? No, the K1200 uses "buckets". You either measure with a micrometer or look on the bottom of the bucket for the diminsion marking for what you currently have. There are several areas on the web that offer step by step instructions for determining the correct replacement size to meet your clearance requirments. If you don't find them here try the K1200LT.net site. I'm not aware of any "kit" but I've heard some dealers will swap out your buckets for the size you need. I don't think new ones are all that expensive.

New buckets are $20+ apiece!! There is no kit....you order one at a time. Sometimes you can swap around and make the existing ones work.....this is an easy check, since the cams need to come out anyway.
