Garmin Map Product Confusion

All of you GPS Guru's, HELP

I am confused by the various Garmin map programs, primarily by the naming. I just bought a used GPS V that came with City Select and City Navigator. I also have basic Map Source that I use with my eTrex. I got everything loaded and functioning.

What I can't figure out is what's the difference between the varous products and what to use for what? They are all named so similar and the product descriptions don't help either.

What is best to use enroute, preferably on back roads?
What is best if I have to navigate through a city?

This one does make one's head hurt. The biggest differences I have seen is the size of the map "chunks" that are loaded in each of the software packages.

City Navigator provides detailed maps of major metro areas as well as rural coverage and points of interest.
City Select provides detailed maps of major metro areas as well as rural coverage. Each CD also contains points of interest and automatic routing, giving you the capability to generate point-to-point routes in MapSource and on compatible Garmin units. The CD is included with the purchase of several Garmin units and is also available for purchase as a stand-alone product.
This disk offers similar coverage as City Select, including points of interest. MetroGuide North America and Europe provide automatic route calculation for select products on the PC, while MetroGuide Canada offers autorouting on both the PC and compatible Garmin units. The main difference is its compatibility with Garmin units that do not have automatic route capability.

I have found the best results from using the software that is packaged with the hardware. So I use City Navigator with my 2610 and City Select with my GPS V.
