Denver / Springs going to West Bend ?

New member
Hi all.

Anyone from Denver (especially Parker) or the Springs headed to the Rally and wouldnt mind a fellow BMW rider to ride along with? My buddy lives in Parker CO and obviously prefers to not ride alone for safety reasons. I'm here in St Louis and already have company to ride up with.

He's a great motorcyclists and can do any pace but a snails'!

Thanks all, Keith

If everything goes according to plan I will pass through Denver on my way to West Bend as part of an Iron Butt ride. I will head north from Denver to Billings Mt. to meet a friend and then on to West Bend. I will pass through Denver sometime Tuesday July 10 morning and I plan on being in West Bend on Wednesday evening. Your friend is more than welcome to ride with me/us.

<bump> Any Colorado riders heading to West Bend ?

If so, please see my first post.

Thanks !!

From Elizabeth, Co

I'm coming thru from Phoenix to see a relative. Will probably leave CO three to five days before start of WB Rally. Not in a rush and hope to enjoy some good roads along the way instead of blasting along the interstate.

from Arvada

Will be leaving from Arvada probably on a Monday on a slow ride to West Bend. Am on Oxygen now and haven't tried anything beyond around town so don't know if I have enough will power to ride distances anymore. Company would be a nice safety feature, my wife would like it, but my pace now is probably to slow for most people.

Could leave CO Monday, July 9th

That would work for me. Three full days is a nice pace to enjoy the journey and have a "cushion" in the event of mechanical problems. (I've signed up as a volunteer at the Rally). :thumb I plan to do cheap motels on the way, but camping at the Rally.

Hi,

A couple of us are planning on leaving from Colorado Springs in the early morning hours of Wednesday July 11. We plan on being in West Bend on Thursday evening. We'll be going right past Parker...

Denver to West Bend

I'm leaving Denver on Tuesday afternoon around 4pm and riding to St Francis, KS. Then continuing with major two lane highways (minimize super-slabs) on Wednesday morning. Ride about 500 miles, plus/minus, then arrive in West Bend around noon or so on Thursday. Not camping...inexpensive motels.

Route suggestions

I'm leaving Denver on Tuesday afternoon around 4pm and riding to St Francis, KS.

Is that about an 8 hour haul?

What do you think of Hwy 36 out of Denver to St. Joseph vs. I-80 or I-70? I'm looking for route suggestions, with three days to get there.

Denver-West Bend Route

Denver to St. Francis is just less than 200 miles....I-70 to Bennett, CO; then 36 into St Francis. I'm traveling on business right now and don't have my route that I created with my Navigator II. However, the trip from Denver to West Bend utilizing (primarily) secondary roads, such as Hwy 36, is just less than 1100. So, riding 200 miles on Tuesday afternoon leaves about 900 mile for Wed and Thurs. Since I want to arrive around noon on Thursday, I'll put in around 600/650 on Wednesday (about a 11-12 hour day) and about 300/250 on Thursday. When I get back home (Friday) I'll post the route I created.:thumb

GPS Route from Denver

This is the route I will follow to West Bend. (I deleted the portion from my house to E-470). Essentially what you see is Aurora, CO (East Denver) to Wisconsin. I have not inserted a waypoint for St. Francis, KS...it just before turning north on Hwy 161. Total miles: 1088.

West Bend Route (non-GPS)

For the benefit of an old fart that still uses maps, can you send me that route just showing the cities you plan to go through? Thanks.

I am presently planning on riding my R1150RT to the BMW Motorcycle Owners Association National Rally in West Bend, WI the week of 9 JUL 07. I believe the rally starts on the 11th and this way I can work in a short visit with friends of mine in Batavia, IL and Deerfield IL hopefully.

I'll probably leave early in the morning on 09JUL07. If you're planning on going to the rally and would like some company along most of the way, that'd be great!

I am not a fast rider, usually keeping it slightly under 10mph above the limit. Not going for a bun burner award on the way out, maybe on the way back. : )

PM me if my planning schedule fits yours....I'd be glad for the company and there's something to be said about safety in numbers when going long distances.
