Tours

I am new to GPS but becoming addicted to it! Is there a way to download some of these fantastic tours (routes) that many of you Cheeseheads surely must have in your files? The photos are breathtaking and being from Michigan, my ride to the rally will be short but had hoped to ride a lot using the rally as a point of departure. Wisconsin roads are wonderful and I want to ride some of them.

I should have mentioned that I have an older Garmin Street Pilot III.
I don't know if that makes a difference or not.:wave

Big Bore Adventure Riding

The Wisconsin DNR considers Highway 64 E-W as the dividing line between the Northern Forest lands and the Southern Farm lands. Hwy 64 runs about 30 miles north of the 45 degree north parallel. Wisconsin is set-up much like Maine, with the majority of the population in one corner of the southern part of the State and forest land in the north.

On your trip to Wisconsin, remember that any direction you arrive from you can have a excellent "Big Bore Adventure ride".

If you arrive from Chitown, imagine you are riding gravel and you have to be ready for any situation as it happens.

If you arrive from around the top of Lake Michigan, consider doing the Marquette County Waterfall tour, as it is a great GS ride. In Wabeno, Nicolet National Forest area, I just rode the WDS/AMA Suzuki National Adventure Riding event and that ride was a hoot.

I will later attach Cannonshots Waterfall GBX file tour to this post. A little heads-up about the waterfall tour, in The Rockies these waterfalls would be called rapids or a cascade.

The Waterfalls below, they rightly named "Four Foot Falls"

Years back when the Wisconsin Winter climate was much colder, snowmobiles were the cash crop of many area of Wisconsin. Now, snow machine are dead, and taken their place are All Terrain Vehicle and dual sport bikes. Northern and west central Wisconsin in crossed with ATV trails and many allow DS Bikes. Most County State and National forest roads and logging trails also allow ATV & DS.

If you are entering Southwest Wisconsin, you will be in the Hidden Valleys region and there are many small town roads that go through the valleys to get to the farms. More great Adventure Riding Roads.

The Highground Veterans Park

The Highground

On this 140-acre Veterans Memorial Park, visitors experience tributes that vary in significance from national (Native American Vietnam Veterans Memorial) to historical (WWII Globe) to contemporary (Legacy Stones).

From the point of the plaza one can see one-half million acres of spectacular woodland scenery and glacial moraine. Located three miles west of Neillsville on Highway 10 in west central Wisconsin, USA., The Highground is open to the public at no charge 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

The Highground is a place of education, a place of healing and hope, a place of peace, serenity and beauty. "More than for all veterans, more than for those who did not come back, this Highground has become a place for all of us."

The Liberty Bell

The Liberty Bell Foundation was founded in 1976 by a group of businessmen from Minnesota. Their goal was to bring to the citizens of the Nation the true, inspiring story of the founding of our Republic, and the principals of personal freedom upon which this founding was achieved. An exact replica of the original Liberty Bell was cast in France. Mounted on a trailer, the Liberty Bell was taken to thousands of schools throughout the United States, allowing over a million children in 36 states a first hand opportunity to learn about freedom

When the tour director died, the Liberty Bell Foundation ceased giving public presentations. After considering a number of options, the Foundation decided that the best place for the Liberty Bell to continue its patriotic mission was at The Highground.

The Liberty Bell is housed in an authentic timber frame building made in May of 2002 by Master Timber Framer Lyle Lindholm and volunteers.

The Nurse

Dedicated to the Women who Served in Vietnam.

The Women's Tribute.

The Highground is one of the first memorials in the United States to pay specific tribute to women veterans. The first occasion was in 1988 when The Vietnam Veterans Memorial at the point of the plaza included a woman in the statuary. The second came in 1992 when The Women's Memorial was dedicated.

Roger Brodin originally submitted "The Nurse" to be placed in the competition for Women's Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington DC. Had she been chosen, the 36" model which now stands on a piece of granite with such strength and beauty in front of the Flag Pole at The Highground would have been a life-size version. When a different design was chosen, the Wisconsin Chapters of the Vietnam Veterans of America purchased this statue for The Highground, where she pays tribute to all women who have served our nation.
