Things I learned at the rally this year

  • Paul and Voni Glaves really are that nice.
  • There's always something interesting in the vendor building
  • I don't really need a new bike.
  • Air conditioning is good
  • Mud is clingy
  • Rain will not kill me.
  • Busses can be fun.
  • BMW people are fun.
  • Some folks are determined to have a bad time and there's nothing you can do to help them have a good one.
  • Giving away stuff is fun.
  • When they shine a spotlight on your face, you can't see anything.
  • West Virginia is beautiful.
  • Kentucky is nicer than I imagined and I had a ball there.
  • It rains in the Nevada desert in the summer.
  • Our RS is still a fine motorcycle.
  • Sargent makes a nice seat for the oilhead RS.

What did you learn?

:eek
What I learned at the rally

.BMW people are fun and nice
.Vendor area is addictive
.Rain happens deal with it or stay home
.Tents can become kites
.Volunteering is fun
.West Virginia is as beautiful as it was in the 70's
.5:30 am line up for test rides(go to your dealer)
:wow

Experience teaches us stuff

Things I learned...

Do not stand inside a flying tent:eek
Big Mak tank bags need rain covers
Putting bags inside of the system cases make packing easier (yea the vendor area lightened my wallet)
Fitted Plugs by Bob Weiss are very good and he fits them better than the audiologist in town and cheaper/faster.:)
Pack rain gear in the top case, not the saddlebags :p
Always travel with a first aid kit (I had mine and fixed all sorts of scrapes and cuts)
Some people still think women can't ride
:dunno
I am more of a hotel guy than a camping guy; think it is lack of practice.
I can do 400 miles in a day:bliss longest single day so far. Sargent seats are really good.
Always get to a hotel when the tornado sirens go off (the ride down)
Riding in rain not so bad, riding in cross winds not so bad, riding in hail hurts, riding in all of them at the same time sucks.
While packing, the anonymous book fits in the tube of the Sargent seat.

I think that is it for now.;)

Thanx!

1. High winds don't blow, they suck!
2. As usual met lots of nice folks at the rally.
3. RE: #2, I was a bartender(beertender) when we brought the house down, and I really want to thank, in a big way, the folks who had the patience and understanding as to why we weren't serving for a while. Also, a big THANKS! to those who helped out in the aftermath, searching for injured, helping to clean up the area, and also for the very honest folks who brought back the fistfuls of wet cash that had blown out of the cashbox before it could be closed up. There was one individual who said he had recovered some from 5 blocks away. Such integrity is commendable. Thank you to everybody concerned, including the Internet Riders who were there at the time helping out.

lerning iz gud

- EVERYONE has an interesting story to tell (if you listen long enough)

- I could live on Powerbars and beer if necessary

- I'm a better rider than I thought

- I'm not as good a rider as I thought

- Beer-soaked mud smells weird

- I love my bike

Things I learned:

BMW people are really nice

I love to shop for motorcycle stuff

The mud in the beet tent DID smell weird

Going faster with my R in the rain DOESN'T make a larger dry space around me.

I will need to save vacation so I can go to Washington next year

I will have to camp if I want to meet more people at the rally.

On Thursday evening, I was looking out the window of my hotel room during a massive wind/rain storm.

I watched as covers blew away, and as riders struggled to pick up their bikes that got blown over.

I learned that indoor parking, vendor areas and events can be a fine fine thing < s >

What I learned

Motel reservation was for non smoking, bottom floor @ $64
Actually was a smoking,3rd floor @ $74

Buses didn't run 3 miles north to hotel!

While trying to find a way to beer tent, I was looking in yellow pages for taxi & came across escort service. Called them and they were running a special on *Chinese Basket Job* So I didn't make it to the beer tent gathering on Sat nite, Sorry:cool:

- 8 adults plus driver will fit in a std. taxi
- dinner reservations at the 5th Quarter was a very good idea. Waltz in past the 2 hr. waiting line.
- Beer good (as always)
- Blue martinis bad in a good way
- lots of people know the ADV rider salute
- visiting with new and old friends from all over the country is priceless!

Oh, and lest I forgot...Rocky Mayer rocks!

Does a *Chinese Basket Job* have anything to do with those chinese handcuff thingies??? Just curious.......

What I learned?

I learned that my wife can ride long distances.
I learned that I can spend way too much money at these things.
I learned to look around and see who you can meet standing next to you.
I learned that some people are asses where ever they are.
I learned that same people need to enjoy life a little.
I learned that I am looking forward to another international.

Thanks to all that put their time into this rally.

You weren't the couple I saw in Kansas on the RT were you? They had matching BMW riding suits and were kind of tooling along at the speed limit.

I was the idiot on the white RS (teal seat at that point) in the red stich running Speed Limit +15. Cows and a red left hand on my helmet.

Whudja do, KBasa ... change your seat color somewhere along the line? :dunno

Things I Learned At The Rally:
  • BMW people are really nice
  • KBasa is really nice
  • So is MrsKbasa
  • Never turn down an opportunity to attend a rally that's only 185 miles from home
  • Heineken tastes mighty good even after only 185 miles
  • It's scary (but amusing) when people actually recognize you from another web site
  • The coolest BMW owners ride GSes :brow :D
  • While Charleston may not have been my favorite choice for a rally, when you get like-minded motorcycle people together, there is no such thing as a bad rally
  • West Virginia is still as beautiful as it was the last time I was there last summer
  • There is a product made for every conceivable need ... and many more for every inconceivable need
  • Air condition is a Good Thing
  • A 20-liter Marsee tank bag holds cold beer beautifully
  • There is nothing like motorcycling. It is a community. And, man, is it fun.

And yeah, you're right, you get enough motorcycle people together and it's really, really hard to have a bad time.

Ah the Sargent Seat

What a difference it makes; and it is cost effective. Anyone want to buy a slightly used RT seat, only 3,500 miles and one butt?

Now there's a ride report I would like to read!

Just be careful to remove that chord before you sit down, KBasa. :huh

Who is that ugly grinning dude on the far right with the Heineken? :bliss

I don't think it was us. We're 6 miles from Missouri and we didn't see any other cycles for a while.

Bette rides a red R1100RS while wearing a red and black First gear jacket and black pants and a black HJC helmet. I ride a Glacier Green R11RT in a blue stich and sliver berth helmet.

If you were only going +15 across KS on I-70, you must have gotten ran over :bliss

We had a great time in WV. Just missed having a central place to meet others. We liked the h/motel part of the rally since we like our comforts.
