1300GT BMW battery charger

Charging the battery on my 2010 K1300GT with a CAN-BUS system using the BMW charger. The charging process appears to begin correctly, but when the last LED lights up at 3/3 charge the red error LED light comes on. Anyone else experiencing this issue and is it felt to be a problem? :)

How much was that BMW charger? The ~$65 model should do what you experience; it needs a pig tail to the battery. The ~$165 model may do it on some bikes if key on when plugged in, and shut off thereafter and on other models, it must be plugged in with bike off.

Thank you. I have the $165 charger. With the CAN-BUS system it is necessary to plug the charger into the bike then into the 110 volt source, turn on then turn off the ignition. After about one hour the charge LED moves from 1/3 to 2/3 then 3/3. Upon reaching 3/3 the red error LED lights up and stays on. The charger will not charge if the ignition is not briefly turned on then off while the charger is plugged into the bike's charge in / power out receptacle. There is no reference to this issue in the charger instructions or with the CAN-BUS information.
It appears the BMW charger is performing the proper charge as indicated by the fractional LED light progression. I'm not sure if the charger is then continuing to "trickle" charge with the red error LED illuminated.

I had one and returned it for doing what yours is doing. The dealership parts manager agreed with me, it was defective.

They offered me a trade for a new one, and I said no thank you.

Thanks again. Will return the charger try a replacement.

Good luck. I certainly hope the next one works!

BTW, I returned mine w/o a trade because I had a working BT Plus and just figured I'd live with it.

Measure the battery voltage with a voltmeter and you'll know for sure. Same when it is in the 3/3 state. You want to know if it is being taken to the correct voltage.
