Repairs on windshield adjuster - 1150RT

Windshield up/down adjuster doesn't work properly with windshield attached. Dropped bike and it came to rest on the ride-side of the shield against the house.

Mechanism works OK but not when you add the weight of the windshield. You can hear the gears slipping, and in fact, I can physically move the windshield up and down without using the electrical motor.

Any help or ideas would be appreciated, otherwise its a 3-hour trip to the dealer and lots of expense.

Thanks for your input.

Have you taken a look inside to see if anything is bent? I'd bet it's something fairly obvious, once you get the bodywork off.
