Do you want lights that are good to look at or good for looking forward? For cosmetics the LEDs are fine but throw little light down the road. I find that HID low beams and Hella FF50s for side lights work quite well.

Marty -- I'd disagree with the categorical statement on LEDs as not all are created equal. I have Clearwater Kristas on my GS and am extremely impressed with the ability of those HPLEDs to throw light downrange. I live in the sticks, where deer and other animals are a constant issue. The Kristas help me spot them much sooner than the PIAA 510 55W driving lamps they replaced.

I've also been very impressed with their customer service. I commented on a forum about some condensation behind the lens after a torrential rain, asking how to best dry them out. Within half an hour I had PMs from both Clearwater (the manufacturer) and RocketMoto (the vendor I bought them from. Both offered sound advice and within a day I had a replacement O-ring in my mailbox.

Not exactly.
That PIAA light uses a pair of 3W LEDs. It is impossible to generate enough lumens from a pair of 3W LEDs to make a longer range driving light and when single 10W LED types are available from others (and probably for less $ knowing PIAA pricing) the PIAA driving setup makes little sense. You can't get much long reach with a dual 3W setup period. The fog version might be satisfactory (there is a shortage of decent fog lights) and of course either the driving or fog might make decent conspicuity lights. (The output of a pair of 3W LEDs will be about 20% of the lumens of an HID bulb, for example, and about half of what a typical halogen headlamp bulb puts out- but it will be at a higher color temp)
The Tesla has a more modern design and enough output to function usefully as a driving light. BUT don't expect anyones LEDs to match the reach of the best HIDs and halogens- they don't (yet).

It's the reflector on the PIAA's that's of interest. The Teslas are the highest output LEDs I know about.

I agree with you about all the other stuff.
